Sam Mercer
Workplace Director, Business in the Community, Responsible Business
I joined Business in the Community in January 2008 with a clear objective - to put the workplace and the way employers treat their own employees at the heart of corporate social responsibility. With compelling economic, as well as ethical arguments, employers can do much to improve life chances whatever our background.
By introducing health and well-being programmes, providing opportunities to gain new skills, and by being open to doing things differently (flexible working, job sharing, etc.) we can push the boundaries and show people the impossible is possible. It's an exciting time to work on this agenda, employers are increasingly waking up to the challenges of our diverse society and the global marketplace.
At Business in the Community we will grab this opportunity and find ways to make member companies do more - and work faster - to make a real difference at work; while at the same time finding ways to share ideas and solutions with Government and the wider employer community.
