Stuart Macdonald
Ambassador, The Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust, Opportunity & Enterprise
I set up my business in 1997 with support from PSYBT. The business is based in Paisley, Scotland and is a progressive IT firm, offering computer hardware and software, backed up by a consultancy and a fully fitted training suite for clients. We actively support business responsibility in the community and also support several local youth initiatives.
The money PSYBT gave me to start a business was really important, but without a doubt the best thing about them is the fantastic aftercare system they have in place. My adviser was and still is an amazing inspiration for developing my business.
Being an Ambassador for PSYBT is really important to me because I am really passionate about the charity and what the organization does to help young people interested in starting a business. As a PSYBT Ambassador it is my responsibility to tell people about the Trust and the benefits associated with it, flag up any fundraising opportunities, identify possible volunteers and give my time to speak at events, telling people about my experiences in business.
When the Alumni scheme was first started I got involved with this too. I think it is really important that PSYBT businesses help and support each other and this is why I approached PSYBT to join and help get the Alumni scheme off the ground, essentially putting my money where my mouth is!
I trade with several other PSYBT backed businesses and now volunteer my time as a Panel member as well. My brother runs a landscaping business and he was also supported by the charity. It’s great to know that my money is helping other young people get started in business.
