Lynne Howles

Experience Counts Lottery Coordinator, PRIME Cymru, Opportunity & Enterprise

My name is Lynne, I am 46 years old and I live in Cwmbran in South Wales.  Originally from Dudley in the West Midlands, I moved to Wales in 1994 with my husband and son because of my husband’s employment.

My background is in secretarial / administration work but in 2000 I decided I wanted to work with people.  I studied Health and Social Care with the Open University for three years while continuing to do administrative jobs within this arena. Finally I was able to get employment as a Health and Social Care Development Officer with the local county voluntary council.

I joined Prime Cymru in 2007 as a co-ordinator on the Experience Counts Project. My role involves helping people aged 50 plus to find worthwhile voluntary activities to take part in.  This could be something simple like helping out at a one-off event such as a fête, or something they do on a more regular basis like helping in an office or assisting with a lunch club.  Whatever people decide to do it is great to see them taking an active part in their community!

I enjoy working with people and helping them move on with their lives in some small way.  Little actions can add up to big changes and it is encouraging to work with people and see them progress over time. This for me is the most rewarding part of my job. This job has taught me that you are never too old to try something new!
