Sony World Photography Awards, which takes place at the prestigious Palais des Festivals, Cannes, France between 15th and 19th April 2009, is the largest international photographic awards competition. 2009 sees environmental and ecological images take centre stage at the SWPA, as illustrated by the PRP partnership.

The Prince's Drawing School will be running the following courses during the week of Monday 1st December to Friday 5th December 2008:

Head and hands: painting the half length portrait
Tutor: Ivy Smith
Location: Shoreditch
Times: 10am-5pm
Cost: £200 per week, concessions available.
Details: The head is the most particular and revealing indicator of individuality, but the hands come a close second. This course will focus on the half-length clothed portrait, exploring its rich potential for composition and colour relationships in paint. Students will have a choice of models and a final three-day pose which will allow an in-depth response to the figure.

The Etching Week
Tutor: Thomas Gosebruch
Location: Shoreditch
Times: 10am-5pm
Cost: £200 per week, concessions available.
Details: The small printing facility in our basement workshop offers you the chance to etch with individual guidance during this week-long course. Starting with making the plates, students are introduced to both traditional techniques, as well as some new new and unconventional methods. Students need to bring drawings or reproductions of their work to the class.

Painting the figure and its environment
Tutor: Duncan Wood
Location: Kensington Palace
Times: 10am-2pm
Cost: £250 per week, no concessions available, class limited to 8 students.
Details: This five-day course will begin to explore in paint, the visual relationships between the model and the space surrounding the model, and the inexhaustible possibilities of making fresh, vital works from the first-hand visible world of our room. We will be able to enjoy an in-depth response to the figure with a two, or perhaps even three-day final pose.
